CRNI® Recertification
Recertification by continuing education requires accumulation of 40 recertification units, within each 3-year certification period. At least 30 of those recert units must be obtained through attendance at any of the following regularly scheduled INS national meetings:

Additional Recertification Options
Along with at least 30 INS national meeting recert units, up to 10 recert units can be submitted from a combination of any of the following options, to complete the 40 recert units required to recertify.
Publish a manuscript in the Journal of Infusion Nursing
- For each manuscript published in the (JIN), the author/s will receive 5 recert units.
- The manuscript must be published for recert units to be awarded.
- The process of approving and publishing a manuscript can take 4-6 months to complete.
- A maximum of 10 recertification units can be submitted within a certification period.
Present as a speaker at an INS National Meeting

A presenting CRNI® will receive 2 recert units for each contact hour presented.

Recertification units will be credited the month that the presentation is given.

A maximum of 6 recertification units will be awarded during any certification period.
Complete the Continuing Education Test from the Journal of Infusion Nursing (JIN). Submit early, the program has a turn around period of approximately 8 weeks.
10 recertification units can be obtained by passing the Continuing Education Test contained in the JIN.

There will be two issues per year. INS Members receive all issues of the JIN.

All correspondence is through the Journal’s publisher, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

A copy of the certificate MUST be submitted to INCC with the recertification application.
Attend INS Local Chapter education programs
-
1 recertification unit for each contact hour received at INS Chapter programs can be awarded.

The program must be related to one of the nine clinical content areas.
-
Continuing education credit must be awarded for the program.

A copy of the continuing education certificate provided by the chapter MUST be included with the recertification application.

A maximum of 5 recert units can be submitted during a certification period. It is recommended the Chapter submit the program for approval prior to its administration to ensure it meets criteria pre-requisites.

CRNI® review courses are not eligible for CRNI® recert units.
Teach infusion therapy related education programs
-
Teachers of infusion therapy related programs may receive up to 5 recert units per certification period.

The program must be related to the nine clinical content areas.
-
Continuing education credit must be given to those who attend.
-
1 recertification unit will be awarded for each contact hour taught, with a maximum of 2 recertification units per topic.

Repeated presentations of the same program will not be awarded multiple credit.
-
A copy of program outlines and objectives along with the date and provider name and number under which the continuing education credit was given must be included with the recertification application.
NEW! Publish an infusion-related manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal

For each manuscript published in a peer-reviewed journal, the author(s) will receive three (3) recertification units.

A maximum of six (6) recertification units will be awarded under this option during any one three-year recertification period.

A copy of the printed article should accompany the recertification application.
NEW! Publish a chapter or edit an infusion-related book

For publication of a chapter or editing an infusion-related book, the author(s) will receive six (6) recertification units.

A maximum of six (6) recertification units will be awarded under this option during any one three-year recertification period.

The book’s reference information, including, author, the year, title, place published, and publisher should accompany the recertification application.

NEW! Other Approved CE Offerings
Participants in other CE offerings approved for CRNI® recertification units through INCC can submit a maximum of five (5) CRNI® recertification units under this category, in any one three-year certification period. Multiple submissions of the same offering are not accepted. Click here for a list of programs that have been approved to date.
Attendance at non-INS educational meetings
- If the sponsoring organization* has submitted their course abstract / objectives for review and has been approved by INCC, attendance at non-INS educational meetings can qualify for a maximum of 5 recertification units per certification period.
- The certificate received from the sponsoring organization must be submitted to INCC along with your recert application. INCC does not have access to attendee lists for non-INS meetings and cannot always credit these units until your application is received.
